    Quick answer

How long can Google Ads headlines and descriptions be?

    Google Ads
How many headlines should a responsive search ad have?

Google needs at least 3 headlines and 2 descriptions, and allows up to 15 and 4. Giving it 10 or more distinct headlines usually improves Ad Strength and gives the system more combinations to test.

Is the strength score the same as Google's Ad Strength?

No. It is our estimate based on the same ideas: enough assets, variety, your keyword in headlines and no duplicates. Google's own rating inside the account also looks at your keywords and past performance.

Why can't I use an exclamation mark in a headline?

Google's editorial policy does not allow exclamation marks in headlines, and allows only one in each description. Repeated punctuation, gimmicky symbols and words in all capitals are also restricted.

Should I pin headlines in responsive search ads?

Only when you must, for example to always show a legal disclaimer or your brand name. Pinning limits the combinations Google can test, which often lowers performance.

How do I write a good Google Ads headline?

Include the main keyword, a clear benefit and a reason to act now. Mix different angles across your headlines, such as price, speed, trust and location, so Google has real options to test.
