    Quick answer

    What is a UTM link?

A UTM link is a normal URL with tracking tags added to the end, such as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. When someone clicks it, Google Analytics records where they came from, so you can see which campaign, email or post brought each visit, lead and sale.

    How it works

    Three steps, no sign-up

    1. 01

      Paste your page URL

The page people should land on, for example a landing page or offer page.

    2. 02

      Pick a preset

Presets fill in source and medium the way GA4 expects, so traffic lands in the right channel.

    3. 03

      Copy your link

Names are cleaned to lowercase with dashes so reports stay tidy.

    Tracking & Analytics
Do I need UTM tags on Google Ads links?

Usually not. With auto-tagging on, Google Ads adds its own click ID that GA4 understands. Use UTM tags for Meta, email, social, partners and anything else that does not auto-tag.

Why should UTM values be lowercase?

GA4 treats "Facebook" and "facebook" as different sources, which splits your reports. Consistent lowercase names keep every visit in one row.

    Which parameters are required?

utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. utm_term and utm_content are optional and useful for keywords and ad variations.

What is the difference between utm_source and utm_medium?

utm_source is where the traffic comes from, like facebook or newsletter. utm_medium is the type of traffic, like cpc, email or social. Standard medium names help GA4 group your traffic into the right channels.

Should I use UTM tags on internal links?

No. UTM tags on links inside your own website start a new session and overwrite the original source, which breaks your reports. Only use them on links that point to your site from somewhere else.
