Local SEO cost depends on how many locations you have, how competitive your area and trade are, and how much work your Google Business Profile, website and reviews need. A single-location business in a small market needs far less than a multi-location one in a large city. Ask what is included each month before comparing prices.

What does local SEO include?

Local SEO is the work that helps a business show up in Google Maps and in local search results for its area. It covers your Google Business Profile, your website, your reviews and how consistently your business details appear across the web.

Work areaTypical tasksOne-time or ongoing
Google Business ProfileClaim and verify, choose categories, services, hours, photos, posts, answer questionsSetup once, then upkeep
WebsiteService pages, location or service-area pages, titles, contact details, speed on mobileMostly setup, then additions
ReviewsA process to ask customers, replies to every reviewOngoing
Business listingsSame name, address and phone on directories and mapsSetup, then occasional checks
Local content and linksPages for each service and area, mentions from local organizationsOngoing
Tracking and reportingCalls, forms, direction requests, rankings by areaSetup, then monthly

For the full list of tasks, see Local SEO: What It Is and a Checklist.

What decides the price?

Four things decide local SEO cost: the number of locations, the competition in your trade and area, the state of what you already have, and how much of the work you do yourself.

FactorCosts less whenCosts more when
LocationsOne location or one service areaSeveral locations, each needing its own profile and page
MarketSmall town, few competitorsLarge metro, many established competitors
TradeFew businesses actively doing SEOCrowded trades such as legal, dental, roofing, HVAC
Starting pointVerified profile, decent site, steady reviewsNo profile, thin site, duplicate listings, few reviews
Services offeredA short list of servicesMany services, each needing its own page
Your involvementYou request reviews and supply photosThe agency handles everything

A storefront business such as a restaurant or a clinic and a service-area business such as a locksmith or a mobile groomer also differ. The second has no walk-in address to show, so more of the work goes into service-area pages and reviews.

How do agencies charge for local SEO?

Most agencies charge a monthly retainer, a one-time setup fee, a per-location rate, or a mix of these. Each suits a different situation.

Pricing modelHow it worksSuits
Monthly retainerA fixed fee each month for an agreed list of workOngoing work in a competitive market
One-time setup projectA single fee to fix the profile, listings and key pagesA business that will maintain it in-house afterward
Per locationA fee multiplied by the number of locationsMulti-location businesses and franchises
Hourly or consultingYou pay for advice and do the work yourselfOwners with time and a small budget
Package tiersPreset bundles at fixed pricesSimple needs, if the bundle matches what you need

Watch the contract length as much as the fee. A low monthly price locked in for a year can cost more than a higher one you can leave. JuvioX charges a flat monthly management fee, month-to-month, with no lock-in. For how these models compare across all SEO work, see How Much Does SEO Cost?.

What should a single-location business expect to pay for?

A single-location business should expect to pay for a setup phase first and a smaller amount of steady work after that. The first months carry the most work, and a quote should reflect that honestly.

For one location, a sensible scope looks like this:

  1. Setup: profile claimed, verified and completed; categories and services chosen; listings corrected; one page per main service; tracking for calls and forms.
  2. Each month after: review requests and replies, new photos and posts, one or two page improvements or additions, a short report in calls and leads.
  3. As needed: new service or area pages, fixing duplicate listings, responding to a ranking drop.

A dentist with one office, an HVAC company serving one county and a family restaurant can all work within this scope. What changes between them is how much monthly work their competition forces.

What can you do yourself for free?

You can do much of the basic work yourself at no cost beyond your time. Google does not charge for a Business Profile, and the factors it describes are ones an owner can influence.

Google states that local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and that businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up (Google Business Profile Help, as of October 2026). Start here:

☐ Claim and verify your Google Business Profile

☐ Fill in every field: categories, services, service area, hours and special hours

☐ Add real photos of your work, team and premises

☐ Ask every satisfied customer for a review, and reply to each one

☐ Make sure your name, address and phone match on your website and main directories

☐ Put your service area and phone number on every page of your site

☐ Create one page for each main service

Reviews matter here too: Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. Our guide on how to rank higher on Google Maps goes through each step in detail.

How do you judge a quote?

Judge a local SEO quote by the work listed, the reporting promised and the terms, then the price. Two quotes at the same price can differ by half the work.

Ask each provider:

  1. What exactly will you do in month one, and each month after?
  2. How many hours does the fee cover?
  3. Who owns the Google Business Profile, the website and the content? The answer should be you.
  4. What will the report show: calls, forms and direction requests, or only rankings?
  5. How long is the contract, and how do I leave?
  6. What do you need from me each month?

Red flags:

  • A guaranteed position in the map results. Google states there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking (as of October 2026).
  • The profile is created under the agency’s account, not yours.
  • Hundreds of directory listings as the main deliverable, with nothing on reviews or pages.
  • Fake reviews, a keyword-stuffed business name or a fake address. These risk suspension of your profile.
  • No list of work, only a package name.

If rankings and traffic are all a report shows, you cannot tell whether the spend pays off. Calls and forms need to be measured, which is what our Tracking & Analytics service sets up. For more questions to put to any provider, read how to choose an SEO agency.
