AEO cost depends on how much content, technical work and off-site mention building your business needs, and on whether it is sold alone or as part of SEO. Much of the work overlaps with good SEO, so check what a quote adds beyond that. It is worth it when your buyers already ask AI tools for recommendations.
So how much does AEO cost for a business like yours? This guide shows what you are paying for, what pushes a quote up or down, and how to test whether the spend makes sense. It does not give market price ranges, because published ranges mix very different scopes of work. AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) are treated here as the same service. Platform facts are as of October 2026.
What Does AEO Work Include?
AEO work falls into six parts: a baseline audit, technical access, content, structured data, off-site mentions and tracking. A quote that only says “AI optimization” has not told you what you are buying.
| Part of the work | What is done | Already part of good SEO? |
|---|---|---|
| Audit and baseline | A fixed set of customer questions is run through AI tools; mentions, descriptions and cited sources are recorded | No, this is new |
| Technical access | Crawler rules in robots.txt and the firewall, indexing, site structure, page speed | Mostly yes; AI crawler rules are the new part |
| Content | Direct answers near the top of pages, question-led pages, key facts in text, clear service, pricing and comparison pages | Largely yes |
| Structured data | Organization, product and FAQ schema that repeats the facts on the page | Yes |
| Off-site mentions | Consistent listings, reviews, directories, roundups, industry publications, PR | Overlaps with link building and local SEO |
| Tracking and reporting | Repeat tests of the question set, AI referral visits in analytics, leads tied back to source | Partly new |
The right-hand column is the one to read twice. If you already pay for SEO that covers content, technical health and links, an AEO quote should mostly add the first and last rows plus a sharper focus on the pages AI tools cite.
What Decides the Price?
Scope decides the price, and scope comes down to a short list of factors. Two businesses can get very different quotes for “AEO” and both quotes can be fair.
- Size of the site. More services, products or locations means more pages to rewrite.
- State of the SEO foundation. A site with crawl problems or thin pages needs that fixed first, and it is billable work.
- Off-site work. Earning mentions on other sites is the most labor-heavy part and the hardest to price.
- Who writes the content. Agency-written pages cost more than edits to drafts your team supplies.
- Tracking depth. The number of AI platforms and questions tracked, and how often.
- Tools. AI visibility tools are subscriptions. Ask whether the fee includes them.
- Project or retainer. A one-time audit and fix list is priced differently from ongoing monthly work.
Here is how that plays out by business type. A single-location plumber has a small site, so the work is mostly listings, reviews and a handful of service pages. An online store with hundreds of products is driven by page count: specs, policies and comparison content on every category. A B2B software company has few pages but needs comparison pages, review-site profiles and coverage in industry publications, so content and off-site work dominate.
How much does GEO cost? The same factors apply, because it is the same work under a different name.
Questions to ask about any AEO quote
- Which tasks are in the monthly scope, listed by name?
- Which of these am I already paying for under SEO?
- Which AI platforms and how many questions will you track, and how often?
- Is content writing included, and for how many pages?
- What off-site work is included, and how are mentions earned?
- Who pays for the tracking tools?
- What is the contract length and the notice period?
- What will the monthly report show?
- Do you guarantee citations or rankings in AI answers? (A yes is a warning sign.)

Should AEO Be Separate From SEO?
Usually not. AEO and SEO work on the same site, the same content and the same reputation, so splitting them across two providers often means paying twice for overlapping work.
Google’s own guidance points the same way. As of October 2026, Google Search Central says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, that SEO best practices remain relevant for its AI features, and that you do not need new machine-readable files, AI text files or special schema to appear in them.
A separate AEO engagement makes sense in one case: your SEO is handled in-house or by a provider that does not do AI testing or off-site work. Then buy the gap as an add-on, which means the baseline, the tracking and the mention building, and leave the rest where it is. If you are choosing from scratch, combine it with SEO. How Long Does AEO Take to Show Results?
There is no fixed timeline, and different kinds of changes show at different speeds. Anyone who gives you a guaranteed date is selling certainty they do not have.
From fastest to slowest:
- Access fixes. If your site was blocking an AI search crawler, unblocking it works quickly. OpenAI says it can take about 24 hours for its search systems to adjust after a robots.txt update (as of October 2026).
- On-page content. Rewritten pages can be picked up once they are crawled again, in answers where the AI tool searches the web.
- Listings and reviews. These improve gradually as corrections go live and new reviews come in.
- Off-site mentions. These depend on other people publishing, so they take the longest.
- What the model learned in training. This only changes when the provider releases a newer model.
AI answers also vary from one run to the next. So “how long does AEO take” is best answered with a trend across repeated tests of the same questions, not a single check.
Is AEO Worth It for Your Business?
AEO is worth it when your buyers already ask AI tools for recommendations in your category and your site basics are in place. If neither is true yet, the money does more in SEO first.
You can test this yourself before spending anything:
- Add “AI assistant (ChatGPT, Gemini or similar)” to the “How did you hear about us?” field on your lead form, and ask new customers directly.
- Check your analytics for visits from AI tools. OpenAI says ChatGPT adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to referral links. Google counts AI feature traffic inside the Search Console Performance report under the Web search type, not as a separate line (both as of October 2026).
- Run the questions your customers would ask in the main AI tools and note which businesses are named.
- Compare what one new customer is worth to you with the monthly cost of the work.
Is AEO worth it for every business? No. It tends to matter most where people research and compare before buying: B2B software, legal and accounting firms, high-ticket home services such as roofing or remodeling, and specialty ecommerce. It is less urgent for low-price impulse purchases, or for a business whose site is not yet indexed properly. The answer to “is GEO worth it” is identical.
To measure it properly you need AI referrals and leads showing in your reports. See AI Visibility: What It Is and How to Track It, or ask our tracking and analytics team to set it up.
How Does JuvioX Charge?
JuvioX charges a flat monthly management fee. The engagement is month-to-month with no lock-in, and it starts with a free audit.
The audit comes first for a reason: it shows which parts of the work your current SEO already covers and which are missing, so the scope is known before you pay for anything. We do not promise mentions or citations, because no agency controls what an AI tool says. Details are on the AI search (AEO and GEO) service page.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is AEO worth it?
It is worth it when your customers already use AI tools to research purchases in your category and your SEO basics are in place. Check your lead forms and analytics for AI-sourced visits first. If you see none and your site still has basic SEO problems, fix those before paying for AEO.
Will AEO replace SEO?
No. AEO builds on SEO. As of October 2026, Google says SEO best practices remain relevant for its AI features and that no special optimization is required to appear in them. AI tools that search the web also rely on pages that are crawlable and clearly written.
How much does GEO cost?
GEO costs whatever the scope requires, the same as AEO, because the two names describe the same work. The price depends on site size, the state of your SEO, how much off-site mention building is needed and how much tracking is included. JuvioX charges a flat monthly management fee, month-to-month.
Can you do AEO yourself?
Yes, a good part of it. You can check that AI crawlers are not blocked, rewrite key pages to answer customer questions directly, correct your listings and ask for reviews. Off-site mention building and consistent tracking are the parts that take the most time and are most often handed to an agency.
How do you measure the return?
Track three things: how often you are named for a fixed set of customer questions, visits from AI tools in your analytics, and leads or sales from those visits. Compare the value of those customers with the monthly cost. Expect some visits to go uncounted, because people often see a name in an AI answer and search for it later.
